About the Album

Originally I wanted to release an album that had absolutely no filters and just said everything I ever wanted to, but I ended up not having the courage it took. While some of the songs are maybe a little more suggestive than the ones on Loud, for example, they aren't as "Unfiltered" as I originally intended. But, I was going through some personal stuff at the time and just needed to release some music to feel something more than just sad or angry.

Album Art Fun Fact: I drew all of the artwork (except for the cover photo) on Paint. For some pictures, I traced over already existing images. For others, I just came up with it as I went and free-handed it! ☺

The Story Behind....

track 1 - FIRST

This song is dedicated to my oldest niece, Alice. I wrote "First" after I found out that she was being promoted to big sister. I know that she'll probably not remember life before her little sister, but I wanted to make sure she knows that she is the first "little" to steal my heart. She changed my whole world and I'm so thankful that her parents will share her with me! I love her so much and that's really all there is to it!

track 2 - COFFEE

This song is dedicated to my best friend of life, Roxi. She has been by my side since second grade when we became best friends because we both brought our lunch to school. She has been one of my biggest supporters through life and she means the absolute world to me. She is one of my favorite people because she is always so honest and true to who she is. She is one of the best people I will ever know.

Over the 15 years I've spent being her friend, she's told me about the boys who would rather play games than commit, breaking her heart time and time again because they build her up so high and just drop her like she's nothing... I wanted to remind her that she deserves to be loved unconditionally and that I hope she finds somebody that will treat her the way she truly deserves. As much as I want to be the person to "complete" her and heal her broken heart, I know that I'm not the person to fill that role for her. And that's okay. You can't always save the people you love the most. All you can do is love and support them through the pain.

track 3 - IT'S YOU
** Removed from Streaming**

This song is a love song, but it could be to/for anybody in your life you want it to be about. Your crush, significant other, religious being you choose to believe in, a friend, your child, a family member...

I wrote this song for somebody that I admired for so long, but have been too terrified by how I feel to openly confess it to them. I actually contemplated whether I wanted to release this song or not because it's hard to tell whether it'll slip through the cracks or be the start to a war.

"It's You" was written in 2019 as I became frustrated with myself for playing this game and not having the confidence/courage/insanity to just tell my paramour how I felt. I decided that this would be the last song I wrote for this particular person because it's exhausting writing songs about unrequited, impossible, pointless affection for somebody.

Even though I still care a lot about him, it's time to move on.

track 4 - RIGHT

I wrote this song for the love of my life. It's based on advice my mom used to give me about dating: Looks fade, you need to find someone who you would be okay with sitting in rocking chairs on a front porch with when all of the fun, metaphorical physical fire and beauty have faded.

track 5 - OTHER SIDE
** Removed from Streaming**

I used to give people every chance they possibly could to prove themselves. I tried to see the best in people, even after their true colors were vibrantly and undeniably shown. I wanted to believe that people just make mistakes, have lapses in judgment, or aren't as bad as they really were. If a bridge was "burned", I'd say it was only burnt on their side and that I would be waiting on my side waiting to rebuild.

But I'm tired of allowing people to steal my peace and break my heart because I decide to be color blind. Sometimes bridges are burned for a reason: whether it's to allow better situations/people/things to enter, or to just get rid of the negativity in our lives. Sometimes things aren't meant to be rebuilt and it's okay to walk away. You can't always sacrifice yourself to make amends with people that decided to leave, no matter how much you love and care about them. Sometimes the damage is too deep to be repaired and you're better off cutting your losses and moving on.

So, to anyone that sees this: if you don't want to be in my life, you are free to leave. Set fire to the bridge between us, but don't expect me to be waiting for you if you ever decide to come back. A year ago I would have wanted to make amends or try to change your mind... but I can't change the narrative in your mind that you have set for me. You're allowed to believe and feel what you do. Just remember I have a narrative for you in my mind, too.

track 6 - TAKE ME TO SPACE
** Removed from Streaming**

I'm gonna jump straight to the point with this one: This song is a giant innuendo (if you didn't pick up on that on your own). It feels weird knowing I'm releasing a song about sex, but spoiler alert: That's how we all got here, so...

track 7 - EXPLORE

I was inspired by going on adventures in the woods with my friends. We would go hiking and lose cell phone service for hours. It was nice to unplug for a while and just forget about social media for a little bit and spend time with genuinely good people.

Picture

track 8 - THE REAL ME

This song goes out to anyone that would rather see me be a lessened version of myself for their own comfort than see me be my true, authentic, self. I've had my heart broken so many times because I allowed myself to be made small to keep other people in my life, not realizing it until the damage had already been done. I've struggled a lot through my life to become comfortable with who I am as a person, and I'm not willing to let that go, again. For anyone. This song is about me deciding I wanted to be honest and true to myself.

track 9 - I LIKE YOU BETTER WHEN YOU'RE STONED
** Removed from Streaming**

Probably my favorite song on the whole album, I Like You Better When You're Stoned is about a girl that I tried to be friends with, but things just weren't working out for us. Especially in the last several months, there were many times we would get into confrontations with each other, try to work it out, and continue to play friends. In reality, I think we were both getting to a place where we couldn't stand being together because there was too much friction. After a while, everything felt forced and not as natural as it did in the beginning.

I started to write this song back in June of 2019 when things first started to escalate between us. She was openly insecure and I was extremely uncomfortable. We tried to "patch things up", but we were really just putting band-aids on bullet holes. We weren't "healing" our friendship, we were delaying the inevitable. I finished this song when we cut ties in August. It wasn't exactly mutual, but there was too much said and done between us to be able to go back. Plus, I had gotten to a point near the end where I really only liked her when we were getting high because that's one of the only times it felt like we genuinely got along.
